Editorial standards for anyone offering a contribution about Mount Barker, the Porongurup, or the Great Southern around them.

Karri forest in the Porongurup, the kind of place contributions should help people walk carefully

This independent guide accepts a small number of contributed pieces when they help a visitor plan and when they meet the same bar as the rest of the site. We are not a guest-post exchange, not a winery publicity desk, and not a place to republish a press release.

What we want

First-person walking notes that add conditions a static page cannot hold — for example, how a particular granite slab behaves after rain — if you can describe the behaviour without turning it into a dare. Historical research with citations to the Heritage Council, Battye Library, or Shire records. Natural-history writing that points at Atlas of Living Australia or park science, not at a guess.

What we will not run

Prices. Rankings. “Best cellar door” lists. Award tallies. Invented quotes. Events that are not on an official current calendar. Operator copy with a booking link dressed as journalism. Anything that treats Menang / Minang Country as empty scenery. Anything scraped from the old site or from another guide.

How to pitch

Use the contact form. Include your name, a two-sentence bio that states your connection to the district or to the subject, the working title, the sources you will cite, and a short sample. Do not send a finished thousand words until we ask. Do not send images you do not have the right to publish.

Editing

We edit for accuracy, tone, and the no-invention rule. We may decline a piece that is fine writing and still wrong for an independent planning site. Published contributors are named. Payment, if any, is discussed before work starts; this page does not invent a rate.

If you represent a business, you are welcome to send a factual correction about your own opening status. You are not welcome to buy a ranking.
